WHEN BOBBY GEORGE WAS PROVED WRONG

Last night, at the BDO World Championship Quarter-Final between Holland's Jan Dekker and Gerry Thompson at the break it was 3-1. And Bobby George said that Jan Dekker would have no chance of fighting back against Gerry Thompson as Jan had missed doubles and his scoring was quite low as he wasn't hitting the trebles.

But it turned around as Jan Dekker started to hit the doubles and the trebles but Gerry Thompson started to miss he seemed to be sweating quite a lot and looked ill.  It was 4-2 to Gerry Thompson, Jan Dekker made it 4-3. But his nickname 'Mr Cool' proved well as he won 5-4.

I get annoyed when sporting presenters like Bobby George, John Virgo, John McCririck dismiss people's chances as in snooker and darts it is not over until the last dart has been thrown into the double or the last pot has made the match safe. With McCririck he dismisses horses who don't have much of a chance. The famous example of a outsider winning in the 21st century is Mon Mome who won the 2009 Grand National at 100-1. Also at the 2010 Nunthrope Stakes at York, Sole Power won at 100-1. And Foinvon in the 1967 Grand National who has a fence named after him.

In Snooker, Shaun Murphy and Joe Johnson both the World Championship as outsiders. 1986- Joe Johnson 2005- Shaun Murphy.

In Darts. Bobby George should know that the favourite doesn't always win. But he is always been at the BDO and is a character. Get well soon, Tony Green, the voice of BBC Darts for many years. Hope to see him commentating again in 2012.

VIEWS ON TV COVERAGE TODAY

The snow made sure that Ascot, Lingfield and Haydock were cancelled today, but thankfully Southwell was on today. Even though the racing quality wasn't good it was nice to look back at a feature 'Horses who have won the same race 4-5-6-7 times. This is because Kauto Star attempts to win his 5th King George Chase in a row on Boxing Day but people would stay that legendry Desert Orchid would have his record gone with 4 wins. But any each way Dessie will still be peoples 'Favourite Grey Horse'.

SPORTS NEWS

Formula 1- Yesterday was a very good day for Nico Hulkenburg who scored his 1st ever pole postion and Williams first pole since Europe 2005 where Nick Heidfeld got pole postion. But this has been overshadowed by 2009 World Champion, Jenson Button who was ambushed by 6 armed gunman driving back from the Sao Paulo Circuit, thankly the driver drove away and everyone is OK but is will obviously have shaken Jenson. The question is should this happen in to a famous F1 driver and what will the FIA do about this? Back to qualifying it is the first all-German front row as Vettel is second since Japan 2004 where the Schumacher brothers were on the front row.

Football- Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his 24th year as Manchester United manager with a narrow 2-1 win over Mick McCarthy's Wolves. Park Ji-Sung scored two goals and one in the third minute of added time as Man Utd are famous for winning goals in the last dying minutes. Tottenham's dream week was crushed by a 4-2 defeat over Bolton from beating the Champion's League Champions, Inter Milan  to losing to Bolton but Bolton did play well they were 3-0 up when Tottenham scored twice to set up an tense end but Petrov scored in the last dying minute to put Tottenham's hopes to bed.

Horse Racing- The Breeders Cup Classic was the first defeat for the great mare Zenyatta who lost by a head from ironically a horse called Blame. Zenyatta was sired by 2002 Dubai World Cup winner, Street Cry. But she'll be known as one of the greatest fillies of all time.
Another filly, Goldikoia who won the Breeders Cup Mile for the third year in a row it is the first time that any horse has won the same Breeders Cup race two years in arow.

In British Horse Racing, return of a chasing legend, Kauto Star who won Down Royal's Champion Chase quite comfortably, his trainer Paul Nicholls will definitely let him go for an amazing fifth King George VI Chase in a row this would be an great achievement. Only Desert Orchid the great grey has won four like Kauto has. However Kauto Star's jockey, Ruby Walsh has sadly broken his leg in a horrible fall at Down Royal after two wins on the trot it came down with an sicking blow after recovering from shattering his arm at Aintree in April after a fall from Celestral Halo. He will definitely miss out on the chance to win the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.
The winner of the Flat Racing Jockey Championship went to Paul Hanghan who was an 66-1 outsider to win. won by 2 races from his great rival, Richard Hughes 191-189 it was an thrilling end to a great Flat season.
